Cyprus pussy cat rescued.

Yesterday, I tried to visit a place in Cyprus that I haven’t in the 32 years that I have lived on the island, the Kalavasos Mines. Various friends and various internet searches suggested that this would be a nice place to visit, so we jumped in the car and drove direct to Kalavasos. Little did I know that, not only would we eventually not find the mines as they are not sign posted, but we would also needed to return home rather quickly.

Why? Because some asswipe of an excuse of an existence, decided to rid himself of a major problem. How? Well, the coward threw this kitten away, in a tied up paper bag. I regret not taking a picture of it as we found it, but here is a picture of the bag as photographed on our driveway:

She’s had lots to eat and a good night’s sleep… off to the vet later today.

Unfortuantely the vast majority of the local people born and bred in Cyprus would not really bat an eyelid to this. The real sad thing is, kids are still not taught from a young age how to take care of animals/pets. I doubt there is anything done in the schools to combat this, and at home, the situation is worse…we got a LONG way to go to educate the younger generation about respecting animals and that they are *not* dispensable.

Well said Spyro. I’ll never forget the cruelty that I witnessed against stray dogs whilst I was in the army and I even remember a case which was brought into the public eye a few years back, not to mention that my own Mother was once poisoned with Lannate which is still commonly used as an agricultural pesticide. It is strange how people petition against the use of Lannate in terms of animal poisoning, but never think to include in their petition, the fact that it is fatal to humans too (and has been used in this way in Cyprus).

As for the cat, €44 later she’s a healthy he with only a lice and ear infection which is already on the mend.

Whoever did that has no heart. This kitten is the sweetest thing ever! I can (barely, very barely) understand someone not wanting a kitten. But dumping one in a closed bag – that’s deliberate attempt to kill the thing. That I cannot understand.

    R.I.P. little Oliver.

It is with a broken heart that I write to say that we sadly had to have Oliver put to sleep today after having suffered incurable complications to his digestive system.

We both tried very very hard for the little fella, taking him to multiple vets for second opinions etc. but the pain that he was suffering and the less than 10% chance of him surviving an operation, brought us to the conclusion that putting him to rest, was the right one. He is in a better place now.

I have removed the photos from the front page of this post, as they will be hard to look at on a daily basis, but I will leave them on flickr to remind us of the short but big smiles this tiny guy put on our faces.
