Sony Playstation PS3 Update 3.61 for Cyprus

I was rather late to find out about the 3.61 firmware update for the Sony Playstation PS3. Although I have updated my firmware, I have not yet received the email that the system has sent to my registered email address to reset my password.

Anybody in Cyprus who has received the email and got past this stage?

    Hi Costas,

I have still not received an email, so it looks like I will need to re-request it this evening.

As for the PlayStation store not being available in the selected country or region, this has always been the case here in Cyprus. To get around that, you will need to create a new profile and register it to another country, such as the UK.

If you do not need the PlayStation Store however, at least you are now logged back in to your PSN account and should be able to see your contacts and take advantage of the online parts of any games you may have.

Well, I got the email to reset the password in the end, but what Costas is saying is totally different.

You click on the link in the email, there is a captcha code which you type in, on the next screen you choose your new password and then the following screen greets you with this nasty message:

“PlayStation®Store is not available in the selected country or region.”

I am assuming that the actual password does not get changed, since you can re-request another email from the PS3 and to do that, you need to sign in with the old password (haven’t tried an invalid password but I will to confirm).

So, not only is Cyprus locked out from the PlayStation store on the PS3, but now we cannot connect to the PSN at all and are locked in an endless loop.

Hey Sony, I don’t care for the freebies you are giving the rest of the world, I just want to be able to connect with my friends. Is that too much to ask?

And for those of you who are still locked out, here is a solution (not yet tested by myself).

Inside the link that you receive in the email replace “security” with “reset” like so:

    the link looks like https://store.playstation.com/accounts/security/resetPassword.action?token=
and it should be like this https://store.playstation.com/accounts/reset/resetPassword.action?token=

I will test tonight and post if it works for me or not.

Well, I just tried and now I get:

    Will keep trying.
