C.A.C. - Cyprus Alarm Clock

Taken with a Canon EOS 550D Rebel T2i

Want to read the story?

WHEN I told my friends last night that I’ve been waking up shortly after 6:30 AM since Friday, they didn’t believe me. I’m hoping that the above illustration will help.

This is a picture of my neighbour’s… whatever it is. Inside that, the neighbour has a Mespilia (Μεσπιλιά) tree which is very obviously full of fruit. One thing you should know about the Cyprus Mespilia, is that (contrary to common sense) it is not related to the Mespilus. If I am not mistaken, it is a Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica), also known as Japanese medlar, Japanese plum, Chinese plum or Maltese plum. But please correct me if I am wrong. The fruit of the Μεσπιλιά is now commonly sold in supermarkets/fruit & veg markets although I don’t remember that always being the case but again, I may be wrong.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, this neighbour doesn’t want the birds to eat the fruit. As a result, and with total disregard to anything or anybody around him, he pulls this rope, for the entire duration of the day basically to scare the birds away.

When he does this, I think it suffices to say that it sounds like a stampede of 100 cows wearing, you guessed it, cowbells!

If you have reached this post whilst researching Canon EOS products and are considering making a purchase, I have set up an online store here (opens in new window). If you end up buying via this store, I get some pennies for it which helps pay for my hosting fees. 🙂

I believed you yesterday as well. It’s just that nothing like that can wake me up in the morning. 🙂
